Ukulele Anatomy

Image
The Ukulele is a small guitar-like instrument, which was introduced to Hawaii by Portuguese immigrants. It gained great popularity elsewhere in the United States during the early 20th century and from there spread internationally. The tone and volume of the Ukulele vary with size and construction. Ukuleles commonly come in four sizes: soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone. Popular Ukulele makers include Kala, Lanikai, Martin, Mahalo, Oscar Schmidt, Fender, Ibanez and Epiphone.

Acoustic Guitar Anatomy: Gibson Hummingbird

Not to be confused with the Classical Guitar, the Acoustic Guitar has steel strings whereas the Classical Guitar has nylon strings. The Acoustic Guitar also has a narrower neck profile. It is also called the Folk Guitar. Good quality Acoustic Guitars come with Solid Spruce Tops. There are broadly 3 sizes to the Acoustic Guitar. The 3/4 size Acoustic is for young students. The dreadnought size is the most common for adults. This is followed by the Grand Auditorium or Concert size. The size, wood used and string gauge affects the natural tone of the Guitar.   Some Acoustic Guitars can be connected via a cable to an Acoustic Amplifier which typically has reverb and chorus effects. These Guitars have pick-ups and pre-amps installed on them and are called Acoustic-Electric Guitars. Popular Acoustic Guitar makers include Gibson, Fender, Taylor, Martin, Epiphone, Ibanez, Takamine, Yamaha, Washburn and Ovation.
