Image
The Minor and Major Pentatonic Scales are the foundations of Blues and Rock Music, and are widely used in Melody and Lead Playing. The Pentatonic Scale contains five notes, which is how it gets name; Penta meaning 5, and tonic meaning tones. The Minor Pentatonic Scale has the Scale Degrees 1, b3, 4, 5 & b7. And the Major Pentatonic Scale has the Scale Degrees 1, 2, 3, 5 & 6. The Major Pentatonic Scale has a happy sound, whereas the Minor Pentatonic has a sad sound. It is also useful to know that every Major Pentatonic Scale has a Relative Minor Pentatonic beginning from the 6 th  Scale Degree. And they share the same notes. For example, the C Major Pentatonic spells C, D, E, G & A. And the A Minor Pentatonic spells A, C, D, E & G.
